HSE – FINDINGS and TRACKING

BY: MAGENDREN. R                                                                                                                              ISSUE : SEPTEMBER, 2012
       GROUP SHE MANAGER

Leopad Group commitment to  employees  safety and health is our highest company value, and our Top Management and employees involvement has been the foundation of our success in our improved performance over the last few years. From our Top Management to our line supervisors, visible and consistent commitment to safety and health has made a significant impact. We have taken on increased responsibility and accountability in Safety and Health, and our journey to an accident or incident free workplace is a continuous  one.

One measure we use to monitor our Safety and Health performance,  compliance to regulatory and the company’s requirements,  is by conducting frequent workplace audits. Our standard requires that all incidents be reported, recorded and investigated, based on the type and severity of the incident.  Root causes must be identified and action taken to prevent recurrence.  Our Safety and Health Management  System  enables  us to report incidents, track the progress of corrective actions, analyze the trends and identify potential  risks to Safety and Health.  A tracking format is now implemented and  practiced  ( see below).   We collect and analyze information on:

-          -   Unsafe acts
-          - Unsafe conditions
-          - PPE non-compliance
-          - Near miss
-          - Scaffold Standards
-          - Equipment /Hand Tools
-          - Material Conditions
   - Housekeeping

SELF ASSESSMENT AUDIT PROGRAM

BY : MAGENDREN R                                                                                                                    ISSUE: JULY, 2012
         Group SHE Manager

The branches in Leopad Group are now continuously implementing Safety, Health and Environmental Management System (SHEMS) or Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) as a part of our risk management strategy to address the existing Legislation and protect our employees, after successfully achieving the OHSAS 18001, ISO14001 and MS 1722 certifications. This management system promotes a safe and healthy working environment by providing a framework that allows our organization to consistently identify and control the safety and health risks, reduce any potential accidents, guide to Legislative compliance and improve our overall performance.

In line with continual improvement of this system, Group SHE Management has now introduced a “Self Assessment Audit” program, where the Branch Managers will lead their Audit team. The method of audit will be similar to the Annual Internal Audit and Annual Third Party Audit by SIRIM. This “Self Assessment Audit” has to be conducted before the quarterly SHEMS or OSHMS Steering Committee Meeting, and this is also in preparation for the Annual Internal and SIRIM Audits. This means the branches can continuously identify new potential hazards and risks associated with their activities, and understand the safety, health and environmental laws that are relevant to them. This will also produce objectives for improvement with regular reviews conducted. To assist in establishing how ready the branches are for the SIRIM Audits, Group SHE Department has produced a self assessment questionnaire checklist for the purpose, as below.
